Podcast: Hillary's Worst Disability isn't Medical

Hello and welcome to the Citizen Economist podcast for Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at www.CitizenEcon.com. I'm Howard Hyde.
Hillary Clinton's inability ever to be straight, or even to relate in a normal manner, to the American people, is catching up with her campaign to be elected as the next President of the United States of America. On Sunday, at the 15-year anniversary 9/11 memorial at Ground Zero in New York City, she took ill and had to be assisted into her campaign van by aides and secret service agents. 90 minutes later, she showed up outside her daughter Chelsea's apartment for a photo-op, demonstrating how healthy she is and how great she feels on a beautiful day in New York. But by this time the video of her being shoveled into the Scooby van, neck rigid, legs stiff, knees buckling, feet dragging, shoes coming off, went viral, and the campaign decided to "come clean" (quote-unquote) a few hours later and "admit" (quote-unquote) that the former Secretary of State has been suffering from pneumonia since last Friday, and will take a few days off from her busy campaign schedule to rest and recuperate.
The thing most damaging to Mrs. Clinton's ambitions to become president are not her coughing fits, her fainting spells, her concussion, her need for help climbing a few stairs or even her deep-vein thrombosis, bad as these are. Rather, the worst is that her congenital dishonesty and deceptiveness, only conceding truth when forced to and many times not even then, has now been institutionalized into her campaign's standard operating communications procedures, as well as into the lapdog media's reflexive cover fire on her behalf.
If the video of her being loaded into the ambulance had not surfaced, it's doubtful that the campaign ever would have "admitted" (quote-unquote) anything. As it is, the latest story of pneumonia seems no more credible than the story of minutes earlier that "I feel great!" If she feels great, then why admit to pneumonia, a debilitating disease requiring immediate bed rest? If she has a communicable disease, why is she kissing babies in public? If she has a debilitating disease, then what did they give her to pep her up so for that photo-op? Why wasn't she taken to a hospital after such a dramatic crash?
The rumors about her health would indeed be non-stories by reporters who need to "get a life," in the words of one campaign spokesman, except that the behavior of the campaign is itself the source of the ever-wilder speculation, due to the inconsistencies and ever-changing narratives.
Hillary may not have thought twice about exposing her germs to that little girl because she in fact knows that she is not contagious, because although she does have pneumonia, maybe it is aspiration pneumonia, secondary to Parkinson's disease, the primary driver of her dehydration, because Parkinson's makes it difficult to swallow liquids and to maintain separation of function between the trachea and the esophagus. All speculation, of course, but backed up by a growing number of medical professional opinions.
Corporate CEOs who preside over disasters, whether financial or physical, are expected to own up early and often to their responsibilities for whatever happens or has happened. Those that do are respected, forgiven and even lauded. Those that don't are swiftly told to pack their bags, if not an orange jumpsuit.
But Hillary Clinton has never taken full responsibility for anything in her life. She has spent her career manipulating power behind the scenes and accumulating frequent flyer miles. In the moment of most intensively being held to account for the disaster in Benghazi of 9/11/2012, her reaction was rather to lash out, angrily and exasperatedly, "What difference does it make"?
Anyone can make a mistake. Anyone can have a catastrophe happen under their watch. Anyone can get sick. What separates true leaders from charlatans is how honestly and forthrightly they deal with it. Is Hillary inspiring you right now?

NeverTrumps and the End of America as We Know It
The election of Hillary Clinton would mean final defeat for American conservativism -- for at least a generation and almost certainly for much longer than that. The demographic changes certain to flow from eight more years of open borders, general amnesty, and distribution of the newly arrived statist voters to electorally vulnerable states would make the Left’s presidential victory this fall, for all practical purposes, permanent.
If Clinton prevails there will be no conservative (or Republican) president during the lifetime of any adult member of the feckless Republican royal families, or of Mr. Goldberg or the children of George Will or William Kristol. Their prediction that the presidency will be recovered in short order is a pipe dream. Over the medium term, twenty to twenty-five years, that recovery would approach demographic impossibility.

Trump is the general that we have
I implore my good friends not to indulge in the next two and a half months in anything that could contribute even marginally to the possibility of Hillary Clinton being elected President of the United States. Whatever Trump's faults -- and he has plenty of them -- they pale in comparison to the corruption and evil of Hillary and the destruction she will bring to our country and the world.
There are intelligent men and women who are predicting a landslide victory for Trump, while other equally intelligent people are predicting a landslide defeat. Since all predictions regarding the Trump phenomenon by traditional pundits and methods have failed repeatedly for the past year, I caution anyone against believing any smugly asserted certainties, least of all polls. It is just as likely that this election will be decided by a hanging chad in a county no one has ever heard of in one of the "battleground" states. If Hillary wins by a hairline margin, what will you say about what you did to prevent it?
Our civilization is in dire peril. Our constitutional rights are being erased. The First and Second Amendments are under assault. American citizens are denied religious liberty, the ability to defend themselves against gangsters and terrorists, or even to talk about these things in the public square. As we speak (so to speak), conservatives are losing non-political back-office cubicle jobs in American corporations for the crime of participating in the civic process. Fired for being grassroots activist Republicans.
With Trump, we will have a fighting chance to turn these alarming trends around. He has exploded political correctness; he speaks unvarnished truths about the Democrat-induced social pathologies that BobDoleJohnMcCainMittRomneyJebBush never could, would, did or will; and pledged support for the right of law-abiding citizens to carry firearms. Hillary on the other hand will shut people up, lock people up, collapse the economy, eviscerate the Constitution, confiscate our guns and sell us out to our adversaries.
Trump is the general that we have today; all other (16+) alternatives have been exhausted for now. Let us stand together now, and resume the bickering next February.

A Sad Day in our House
The Demoncrats' temper tantrum in the House of Representatives is just the latest sad reminder of how far the party of Harry Truman, John F. Kennedy and Daniel Patrick Moynihan has fallen. From leading a bipartisan foreign policy projecting American strength, to advocating tax rate reductions and social policy rooted in traditional Judeo-Christian morality, they are now reduced to reliving their imaginary glory days of occupying university administration buildings during their youth in the 1960s, while relentlessly pursuing a policy mix catastrophically destructive not only to the country at large, but specifically and especially to the very people they claim to champion.
The (not-so) "Great Society" welfare state has reduced multiple generations of Americans, disproportionately blacks, not just to infantile dependency, but to social and familial disintegration that even slavery hadn't accomplished. Democrats' minimum wage laws and antibusiness regulation take a baseball bat to the kneecaps of any black youth uppity enough to try to step on the first rung of the economic ladder. Seven and a half years of the Obama administration has given us an economy and a job market like a manual transmission with a burned clutch.
Everywhere that Democrats are ascendant, misery, unemployment, crime and social conflict rise. And everywhere that Democrats hold unchallenged power -- like Detroit, Chicago, Los Angeles, D.C. -- the misery index together with murder rates, especially via "gun violence," are off the charts.
And yet they have the gall to engage in a sanctimonious and self-righteous media stunt in demand of policy that not only runs counter to the fundamental constitutional law of our society, but which in our country has the most noxious racist origins. Gun control hardly existed in the United States until a group of Klansmen got together and decided that allowing n*****s to own guns after the Civil War had put them on an equal legal footing with all other Americans, was an intolerable idea (minimum wage laws likewise were invented by racist white unions who didn't want to have to compete with young blacks).
I'm grateful to have been able to extricate myself from the spell of this cult into which I was largely born, by virtue of concerted study and soul-searching over many years. But it shouldn't take a genius, or any amount of scholarship for that matter, to figure out that the Democrat Party of today is at war with anyone and everyone who is not already a member of their elite upper echelon of power brokers. Black, white, Hispanic, gay, transgendered, even if you're liberal, you can go to hell if you don't toe the ever-shifting party line with absolute loyalty.
And what a price for that loyalty! Daniel Patrick Moynihan, respected Democratic senator, warns that a 25% illegitimacy rate is potentially devastating to the black community; he is denounced as a racist, the welfare state metastasizes under Democrat design, and the black illegitimacy rate, together with the black murder and incarceration rates, triples. A black man is nominated to the Supreme Court, but because he's not a cheerleader for affirmative action, he is subjected to a high-tech lynching at the hands of white Democrat senators, including former members of the KKK. Joe Lieberman speaks out publicly just a liiiiitle bit too forcefully in defense of Israel and is purged from the very party that nominated him to be their Vice President, even before his term would have run out had he been elected.
White men, whether liberal or conservative, Ivy League or redneck, are intimidated into silence when non-whites or women are forcibly advanced ahead of them in disregard of merit or the free choice of those with whom they are contracting, while simultaneously being browbeaten into confessing their "racism", apologizing for their "privilege", and disowning their manhood.
Successful business people of any race, ethnicity or gender configuration (an endangered species under the Obama regime), or even people who merely aspire to be successful (which is to say, people who earn or try to earn a dollar more than the average government employee via the design and delivery of products and services for which people willingly exchange their dollars in a free market) become the targets of the most vicious attacks (the "undeserving rich"). Small wonder the rate of young entrepreneurship is only a third what it was during the eighties.
Gays and LGBTs decide not to be sitting ducks, buy guns, join the Pink Pistols and get vilified by the Democratic lieutenant governor (and soon-to-be governor) of California.
Meanwhile, Democrat-party designated "gun-free zones" morph as they must by the inexorable laws of human action into open kill zones, and we are admonished never to let it enter our minds, against evidence as literally self-evident as blood, bombs, bullets, bodies and the terrorists' own consistent, scripturally validated and repeated words, that Islam has anything whatsoever to do with it; or that we ought to have the right to defend ourselves in a worst-case scenario.
Marxists have long dreamed of the day that the oppressed proletariat masses of America acquire the consciousness of their own collective power and rise up against their capitalist oppressors. But while they have made quantum leaps toward this goal in the last two or three generations, accelerated in last seven fundamentally transformative years, the reality may be the opposite; they may live in terror that the millions of people whose lives they have destroyed may finally turn their wrath against the ones who have treated them the most contemptibly as pawns.
Ronald Reagan, campaigning for Governor of California in 1966, in reference to the sit-ins, occupations of university property and other unlawful disruptions at UC Berkeley said, "It began a year ago when the so-called free-speech advocates, who in truth have no appreciation for freedom, were allowed to assault and humiliate the symbol of law and order of policemen on the campus, and that was the moment when the ringleaders should have been taken by the scruff of the neck and thrown out of the University once and for all."
It's never too late.

But while they have made quantum leaps toward this goal in the last two or three generations, accelerated in last seven fundamentally transformative years, the reality may be the opposite; they may live in terror that the millions of people whose lives they have destroyed may finally turn their wrath against the ones who have treated them the most contemptibly as pawns.
Ronald Reagan, campaigning for Governor of California in 1966, in reference to the sit-ins, occupations of university property and other unlawful disruptions at UC Berkeley said, "It began a year ago when the so-called free-speech advocates, who in truth have no appreciation for freedom, were allowed to assault and humiliate the symbol of law and order of policemen on the campus, and that was the moment when the ringleaders should have been taken by the scruff of the neck and thrown out of the University once and for all."

An Open Letter from the Gun-and-Bible-Clinging Religious Right to the LGBT Community

Brothers and sisters, you and we have had our differences. We don't celebrate Gay Pride, and we feel that at the very least, questions like same-sex marriage should be submitted to a vote of the whole people and/or legislative majorities, not a handful of judges.
But we are ready to set all that aside in the face of the Islamic Jihad attack in Orlando. Because although Islamic countries routinely execute people accused of homosexuality, and the Orlando jihadi took his inspiration from Islam in targeting a gay nightclub, this was an attack on America and all of us, right and left, homo and hetero. Besides, Jesus commands us to love our neighbor as ourselves, and we take that seriously, however much we may fail.
You might not believe it, but there are thousands of us who would jump at the opportunity to run toward the sound of gunfire to engage a savage like Omar Mateen and save your life, even if it meant drawing fire to ourselves, even if it meant risking taking a bullet for you, if only we could be at hand, with ready access to our firearms.
But that can't happen if you keep advocating for false "gun-free zones" and laws that only effectively prohibit law-abiding citizens like us, with zero effect on criminals and terrorists. There will always be bad guys, and they will always be able to get all the guns they want. Raids on mosques in France have yielded thousands of weapons, in a country with severe legal restrictions on gun ownership and no Second Amendment. Perhaps the most perfect and complete gun control ever was achieved in Germany -- Nazi Germany of the 1930's. What more needs to be said?
Gun control isn't going to stop these murders and massacres. When (not if) the $#!+ hits the fan, you need good guys with guns on the premises, not minutes away or on the phone. Here and now.
Night clubs could hire more security guards armed with semiautomatic pistols and carbines like the AR15, as could schools, universities and shopping malls. But that of course would make the cover charges and drink prices go up, to the point of hurting both the patrons and the profitability of the establishment. If you don't want to pay more or lose business but still want to be protected, you have to allow good people who are willing and able to carry, to do so.
We can start by relaxing futile restrictions. In particular, private businesses should be at liberty to establish and publish their own policies without interference from government, such as permitting holders of CCW (Concealed-Carry Weapon) permits from trusted agencies such as the State of Utah. Which club will you patronize, the one advertising "gun-free zone" or the one declaring "Virginia CCW permit holders Welcome"? Your choice; that's called Freedom.
You might argue that the criminal background checks for issuing CCW permits are flawed, as Omar Mateen was able to acquire multiple licenses and even get employed by a leading security firm. It's a fair point, but also moot; we're not talking about a perfect solution, we're talking about evening the odds in a worst-case scenario. Even so, some of us would be perfectly happy to say to hell with the NSA, the FBI, the DHS and the TSA and instead outsource the whole thing to the IDF -- the Israeli Defense Force. They haven't been infected with political correctness and infiltrated by closet jihadis at all levels, as our agencies have.
Will you partner with us in good faith to defend America, our freedoms, and yourselves? You have a tremendous amount of political clout; put it to positive use. On a personal level, if you haven't already done so, find a reputable school and get some real training in firearm safety, storage, handling and shooting. A good place to start if you need to stay somewhat within your comfort zone would be the Pink Pistols (www.pinkpistols.org) -- apparently their membership has doubled or tripled in just this past week. Some of your colleagues have figured out that armed gays don't get bashed.
We wish that we could rewind the clock just enough to put a gun in the hand of every club goer who got shot that night. We can't. But we can increase the odds that the next jihadi will be met by swift return fire from at least a few patrons; enough to make all the difference to persons now living who will be present when that terrible moment arrives. Don't kid yourselves; there are plenty more attacks coming, and not one of them will be stopped by a gun control law, even if liberals could achieve their wet dream of repealing the Second Amendment.

Why should anyone need or want an AR-15?
While Democrat legislators splatter us with saliva that they fraudulently pass off as tears in their quest for gun- and bible-clinger control during moments of silence for the victims, liberals are lighting up the Internet and Facebook with indignant rhetorical questions intended to shame us into retreat, like "Why should anyone need or want an AR15" (variously described to liberals and other impressionable children as a "military-style assault rifle")?
No actual, thoughtful answer is desired, of course, therefore I'll give a few.
A semiautomatic carbine is a legitimate and appropriate weapon for a law-abiding citizen to own for personal or home defense... Unlike the Hunger Games, we really do intend to tilt the odds in our favor.

Why Should Blacks Vote Conservative?
Liberals and Democrats believe that blacks are incapable of succeeding in America unless they are treated like children, with the federal government caring for them and feeding them all along the way, while restricting their actual freedom to act or even think for themselves. Conservatives believe that blacks can advance along with all other Americans if they are given the opportunity and embrace the responsibility of liberty, free markets, private property, and capitalism that has been the source of all of America's prosperity.
We believe that African-Americans can compete and succeed because they have proven time and time again that they can, in highly competitive and merit-based fields like sports, entertainment, the arts, business, and the military. Certain independent all-black high schools in Washington D.C. have produced world-class doctors, lawyers, scientists, artists, judges and generals.
